CIAMPI INAUGURATES ESTE COURT SHOW IN BRUSSELS
(ANSA) - Brussels, October 1 - An extraordinary collection of
paintings, sculptures, tapestries, miniatures, weapons and books
is on display in Brussels, re-evoking the splendor and singularity
of Ferrara's historical court of Este.
The show, inaugurated today by Italian President Carlo Azeglio
Ciampi, marks the first in a series of large-scale events as part
of the Europalia festival.
The international festival, which is staged in Belgium every two
years to celebrate the culture of a particular nation, has this
year chosen to focus on Italy, which holds the rotating presidency
of the European Union.
The show, which was also attended by Italy's permanent representative
at the EU, Ambassador Umberto Vattani, is open to the public in
the Palais des Beaux Arts from October 3 to
February 11.
The exhibit offers numerous examples of the "unique Renaissance",
which was epitomized at the Este court.
It includes beautiful paintings by Cosme' Tura, Francesco del
Cossa and Dosso Dossi, whose movement still draws attention today
for its extraordinary modernity.
Numerous other top artistic and musical events will follow.
Tonight will see Europalia's inauguration concert, with the Sonatori
de la Gioiosa Marca performing several pieces by Italian composer
Giuseppe Verdi. On October 16, Riccardo Muti
will conduct the Scala Theater's Philharmonic Orchestra.
