European museum space

Within the framework of the rolling agenda established by the Education/Culture Council of 23 May 2002, the Italian Presidency committed to the promotion and development of the mobility of persons and the circulation of works of art.
The resolution proposal is intended to improve exchange of works of art and experts through strengthened collaboration among European museums ("Project for a European museum space") and hence to improve co-operation in the European cultural industry.
The initiative is intended to deal with a wide spectrum of themes connected to co-operation among museums.
In the scientific field, collaboration among scientific and administrative personnel in cultural institutions is being encouraged, as is research into the standards used in various countries in the fields of copyright, exhibition criteria (themes, loan policies, etc.), and museum management and administration.
In the field of restoration, theme seminars are being encouraged (archaeological finds, painting, sculpture, etc.), as is the publication of the results achieved by variously composed teams from Member States and comparative study of restoration criteria and methodologies.
With respect to administrative co-operation, increased co-operation for the protection and recovery of archaeological assets lacking documentation of origin is being planned, as is improved co-operation in the fight against illegal traffic in cultural goods, as provided for by the 1970 UNESCO International Agreements and by EEC Regulation no. 1526/98 of 16 July 1998 on the export of cultural goods.
In the museological and museographic fields, the organisation of periodic exhibitions is being encouraged, as is the circulation and exhibition of both art collections and individual works of art within the European space.
