Manuel Jacoangeli was born in Lisbon on September 4, 1960.
He was awarded a degree in Economics and Commerce at the University
of Rome in 1987, and entered the diplomatic career in 1989.
His first assignments were at the Directorate General for Economic
Affairs, Office of the European Communities and, later, at the
Ministry for Foreign Commerce, as Head of the Minister’s
Technical Secretariat. From 1993 to 1996 he was First Secretary
at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union
in Brussels, where he followed the expansion process from 12 to
15 member countries as well as the Mediterranean sector.
Starting in 1997, he was First Secretary, and later Counselor
for Commercial Affairs, at the Italian Embassy in Ljubljana. Having
returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the year 2000,
he first worked at the Balkans Office at the Directorate General
for the Countries of Europe. Starting in April 2002 he was assigned
to the Press and Information Department, where between July and
December 2003 he was responsible for Ministry press aspects for
the Italian Presidency of European Union.
In September of 2005, after being promoted to the rank of Embassy
Counselor, he returned to Brussels as Head of the Press Office
at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union.
He speaks French, English, Portuguese and Spanish.
